The Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division (WHD) remains committed to protecting the health and well-being of children in agricultural workplaces.

RESPONSE:

Good point. Thank you for the reminder. While working against human trafficking, I spoke to the Department of Labor to get answers for someone who thought they were being exploited in the fields. The Wage and Hour Division has some great information about what the laws are regarding hours and wages and how they must be paid out. They were also very helpful on the phone.

If you suspect a farm or any business of using children or unwilling parties to work for them, contact this department or the national human trafficking hotline where you can report your suspicions anonymously. They don't just run in and arrest everyone. They will take your report and open an investigation. If they don't find anythiing, no harm, no foul. If they do, you may have just saved a life!
